Senior or Principal Economic Consultant

Our client is an independent consultancy that provides strategic advice to those who lead, do business or invest in local economies. They work with a range of clients including local government, Combined Authorities, private sector investors and developers across the UK. They are looking to hire a Senior or Principal Consultant in their strategy team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public sector consulting in strategy and/or transformation, and a proven ability to work with local and regional government stakeholders at all levels. This position is a lead role in the strategy team, working on a range of high-profile strategy development and implementation projects across regional devolution, economic growth, sector development and other key economic policy areas, leading and coaching junior consultants and working closely with the team of directors to support clients to affect change in today’s complex and dynamic government environment.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate:

  • 4+ years’ experience working in a consulting firm (6+ years for Principal Consultant), with a focus on local and regional government strategy or complex transformation projects.
  • Strong interest in solving problems in a public sector or public-private environment, understanding of the current public policy environment surround local and regional government and interest in economic policy and local economies and politics in the UK.
  • A strong understanding of the policy levers available for places to support economic growth, balancing theoretical insights with practical experience as appropriate
  • Excellent understanding of core consulting approaches and methods for strategy development, transformation and change management
  • A track record of leading and delivering a diverse range of strategic projects across various public sector policy areas, with deep experience in local and regional government
  • Experience interpreting, critically interrogating and conveying data-led insights and working with socio-economic data
  • Practiced skills in working with challenging public sector stakeholders and complex client environments
  • Ability to work with ambiguity, navigating uncertain client requirements, changing landscapes and political dynamics, and supporting teams to do the same
  • Evidence of working in and leading teams, managing clients, projects and consultants on time and to target end to end, from strategy to delivery
  • Experience of leading pitch and bid development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a range of producing client deliverables, presenting formally and informally
  • Commitment to personal development, on-the-job learning and strong self-leadership skills

Typical tasks include:

  • Leading a range of strategic project work – e.g. developing approaches and plans to meet client requirements, leading and supporting regular client engagement, developing written outputs/ reports/ slide packs, leading research and analytical work and recommendation development for our broad range of clients, ongoing risk and progress management
  • Managing day-to-day relationships with clients, project leadership and project teams
  • Supporting the development of other colleagues within and outside projects
  • Leading and supporting proposal writing
  • Contributing to shaping internal best practice around strategy development and delivery
  • Supporting the management activities/ administration of the business as required

Principal Consultants are expected to be able to deliver a wider variety and complexity of projects more independently, with less direct supervision from Project Directors, and make a more significant contribution to business development.
The successful candidate could be based at either the Manchester or London office. There would also be a certain amount of travel around the UK to client meetings.

A leading global organisation is looking to hire a Principal Toxicologist. This is a great opportunity lead and grow a Toxicology division within this organisation. You would be expected to evaluate claims of human health effects associated with exposure to chemicals, microbial agents (mold) or other toxicants in consumer products, pharmaceuticals, and in various conditions, including the workplace, home or the environment. Performs chemical risk assessments of materials and chemicals found in industrial and commercial facilities and other environments. The ability to evaluate foodborne and infectious disease outbreaks, as well as health impact assessments, is desirable.

This role will entail taking on and leading your practice with daily interactions and communications with the clients, leadership, and other consultants. Collaboration across the team, as well as within the company, to identify new opportunities is a critical skill. Ideally they require a self-motivated individual with exceptional organisational skills and multitasking abilities. You will contribute to the business development of the team, communicate effectively with clients from the beginning to the end of the project, prepare and provide testimony in a legal or legislative environment, and manage time effectively. Past testimony experience is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct chemical and product evaluations to determine potential exposure levels and health risks in a variety of toxicology-related projects
  • Convey those findings to the clients in a meaningful way to address the question at hand
  • Exceptional writing skills for the scientific, legal, and lay audience
  • Capturing and managing casework
  • Effectively and efficiently managing caseload
  • Communication with leadership and colleagues
  • Budget development and transmittal.
  • Proves litigation, scientific liaison, and regulatory toxicology support to clients as necessary.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, and CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Exceptional knowledge of mechanistic and/or forensic toxicology
  • Must demonstrate publication record
  • Prior experience demonstrating a strong understanding of the application of toxicological principles to diverse exposure scenarios is required.
  • Degree required – Ph.D./M.S. degree or international equivalent and above
  • Experience – 10 or more years or more direct experience in the industry, which can be in consulting, manufacturing, consumer product, regulatory, environmental, forensic, cosmetic, or any other toxicology role.
  • Testimony experience
  • Demonstrate the ability to market across the EU
  • Exceptional communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Environmental, Natural or Social Sciences (Business or Financial qualifications advantageous).

  • Strong commercial acumen with proven ability to win work and build long-term partnerships.
  • Confident in managing multidisciplinary teams and driving operational success.
  • Fluent in English; French proficiency is a strong advantage.

A leading environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Groundwater Numerical Modeller to join their Johannesburg-based team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hydrogeologist to play a key role in technically challenging projects that support sustainable resource management across Africa and beyond.

As a Senior Modeller, you’ll be responsible for the design, development, and interpretation of numerical groundwater models, with a focus on supporting mining-related assessments, environmental impact studies, and water use licensing. You’ll work closely with a team of multidisciplinary specialists and provide technical leadership, mentoring, and strategic input on a range of water-related projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop conceptual models and numerical simulations of groundwater flow and quality using tools such as MODFLOW, MT3D, or FeFLOW.
  • Conduct groundwater impact assessments, supply studies, and contamination investigations.
  • Collect and interpret hydrogeological data including geophysics, hydraulic testing, and hydrogeochemistry.
  • Lead or contribute to project planning, budgeting, reporting, and client liaison.
  • Integrate work into environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and support regulatory submissions.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior staff, and collaborate across technical teams.

Requirements:

  • BSc (Hons) in Hydrogeology or a related field with Geology as a major; further qualifications in Chemistry or Mathematics advantageous.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in numerical groundwater modelling.
  • Strong understanding of groundwater flow and contaminant transport modelling.
  • Experience in well design, hydrogeochemical analysis, and hydraulic test interpretation.
  • Registered with a relevant professional body.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across Africa and internationally.
