Are you an engineer or technical energy specialist looking to make a real impact on the decarbonisation of a diverse building estate? We’re supporting a forward-thinking organisation as they look to appoint an experienced Building Decarbonisation Manager to drive measurable improvements in energy performance and lead high-profile carbon-reduction projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in energy management, building services, BMS optimisation, and decarbonisation technologies to step into an influential role shaping net-zero delivery across a large and varied estate.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading energy management across the organisation’s buildings, focusing on consumption, cost and carbon.
  • Interrogating BMS, schematics, building services and central plant to identify inefficiencies.
  • Delivering complex carbon-reduction and retrofit projects, from technical surveys to specification and implementation.
  • Analysing detailed energy data, spotting trends and recommending targeted improvements.
  • Providing expert guidance on HVAC, lighting, renewables, water management and low-carbon solutions.
  • Supporting the development of energy strategies, policies and performance reporting.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Degree or strong technical background in engineering, energy or building services.
  • Proven experience in energy management and building decarbonisation projects.
  • Strong understanding of BMS, schematics, site systems and modern low-carbon technologies.
  • Confident analysing energy data and producing clear recommendations.
  • Excellent communicator able to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Full, unrestricted right to work in the UK.

They are seeking a professional to join their growing sustainability team. The successful candidate will have previous experience of providing built-environment related consultancy and environmental assessments and will possess an understanding of the environmental policy and legislative landscape and future trajectory.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in, or lead on, the following workstreams:

  • Sustainability strategies and monitoring frameworks
  • Net zero carbon strategies and assessments (both operational and embodied)
  • Material lifecycle assessments (embodied carbon assessments)
  • Circularity assessments
  • Environmental and wellbeing consultancy and assessments such as BREEAM, LEED, Ska and the WELL building Standard

The successful candidate will join a team of specialist consultants working across all areas of the built environment. They will have experience of the planning, design, and construction industries (and associated processes) and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, resulting in the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts effectively to clients with interdisciplinary teams. They will be able to demonstrate an ability to multi-task and have exemplary organisation skills.
Their expertise should be borne from an enthusiasm for environmental sustainability, through the practical implementation of strategies that support environmental, social and economic sustainability at local, national and global levels. They will truly enjoy their work, maintaining a keen interest in the fast-paced agenda, and will be driven to develop the role and make a positive contribution to projects by advocating change.

About you
Qualifications and previous experience
Required

  • A formal qualification in a sustainability/environmental management/built environment subject
  • Previous relevant experience working in the field of sustainability
  • Experience of BREEAM and the successful delivery of BREEAM assessments
  • Working knowledge of environmental and sustainability legislation and its applicability to UK development.
  • The drive to explore new or emerging themes and dissemination as appropriate
  • Confidence in preparing and delivering presentations to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Exemplary written and spoken English, with experience of technical report writing
  • Experience of delivering LEED, Ska or WELL Building Standard assessments
  • Experience of using materials life cycle tools and software such as OneClick LCA
  • Experience of carrying out circularity assessments and consultancy.

You’ll already be based in or close to Surrey and hold a degree in Sustainability and ideally have some work experience as you will be dealing with technical information. Initially, you’ll start working to support environmental accreditations such as BREEAM, SKA, WELL, FIT and LEED.

Above all, the team are looking for someone with the right attitude and a great personality to fit into the small, established team.
You will need to hold a UK driving licence for this role.
